This Marantz HD-DAC1 was received into the RJP Audio Overhaul workshop with a non functional display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Initially the display solder joints were checked as VFD displays are prone to dry joints due to the heat being generated by the display itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following this the power supply lines were checked and although a voltage was present it was lower than suggested in the service manual.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It was then found that one of the mains input fuses was open circuit. Visually it looked ok, but placing an ohm meter across it, did indeed reveal that it was open circuit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As soon as this was replaced the display burst back into life once more. Removing the fuse and placing an ammeter in circuit showed that the current draw on the circuit was well below the 200mA rating of the fuse. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Marantz HD-DAC1 is undergoing soak testing to monitor for future failures.<\/p>\n\n\n
